Aviation is set to see significant growth whilst at the same time faces unprecedented environmental challenge with noise, air quality and carbon emissions. This places airports under great scrutiny and those charged with their operations are continually seeking gains through design, technology and business strategy solutions. The assets themselves must operate 24-7-365 serving a complex mix of partners/stakeholders/customers material to commercial success.
This presentation will test future design strategies for airport terminal building envelop/façade including Passive, Universal, eBay, DBOM, and Castaway scenarios and the business models that might make them possible. The terminal façade must deliver detailed performance and architectural outcomes and will see perhaps two or three replacements throughout the terminals life. This mix of variables makes it ripe for disruption by design and business model innovation.
